“macZilla” Core i5 Mac mini: does ESXi 5.0 Update 1 work?

Nope! Not at all, at least when using ESXi 5.0 Update 1. Perhaps ESXi 5.1 will work, whenever it's finally released.

The Core i7 Mac mini uses lesser video (server style), but does allow you to install and use ESXi 5.0 just fine, apparently:
    paraguin.com/2012/01/10/the-mac-mini-vmware-esxi-5-server-part-2-installation
but the Core i5 Mac mini with the discreet GPU, described at TinkerTry.com/maczilla, well, not so much.

Using a USB keyboard and mouse, booting from CD/DVD didn't seem to work at all. So created a bootable ESXi 5.0 Update 1 installer USB key, and put in a second tiny USB key in, as my installation target device.

I can select the bootable installer USB drive, but I don't get very far after that, seen in screenshot below, where it hangs,

Multiboot could not setup the video subsystem.

Any ideas I can try? My next shot at attempting this install is coming up in May...
